Meet our newest addition to the Jala Ambassador family, Cloé Bertrand! We asked her some questions to better understand her style, and boy are we glad she's on our team! She's a beautiful soul and has some awesome advice that applies to everyone - yogi or not.
Q1. What first got you interested in yoga? When did you know you wanted to be an instructor?
A. I first became interested in yoga a long time ago. When I was younger I felt disconnected from myself, so I was really attracted to yoga as a way to connect to myself, to know myself, etc. I was reading articles here and there. I was doing a lot of sports & at the same time I was not so aware of my body! Waouh! So 8 years ago, I decided to go to a yoga workshop for beginners, and that is how I started my journey.
As I travelled a lot and lived aboard, I practiced different styles of yoga with a lot of different teachers. I dived into my practice and, regarding my career path, I wanted to make a difference and to make something meaningful. So I decided to enroll the Yogaworks Yoga Teacher Training and just jump in this new experience as a yoga teacher. I am SO grateful to be able to do that.
Q2. What kind of yoga do you practice?
A. I have practiced so many different styles of yoga over the years: Sivananda, Hatha Yoga, Kripalu, Vinyasa, Kundalini, Anusara, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, etc. I love to explore! I listen to my body and practice what I most need at the moment. My inspiration is Elena Brower: I absolutely love love her! I practice Hatha Flow Yoga and restorative yoga that I absolutely love as well! The Hatha Flow Yoga allows me to get out of my head and dive into fluidity and connection between my breath and my movement. I deeply love the restorative practice which helps me to deeply surrender and to be ultra sweet with my body and mind.
Q3. What's your favorite kinds of clothes to wear during your practice?
A. I deeply love comfortable clothing: I love capris that hug my skin, stylish tank tops and Jala t-shirts. I love clothing that lets me move (without being worried that one of my breasts is out - it happens a lot actually!) and clothing that I feel so comfortable with that I wear it outside my yoga mat.
Q4. Do you have a certain snack or meal that you like to eat before or after your practice? What keeps you energized?
A. Before practicing I do not eat (usually)! After, I love having different kinds of snacks. It depends on how I feel and what I need at the moment. It can be a smoothie, fruit, avocado & bread, home made vegan cookies, etc. I have a real sweet tooth.
Q5. What are your goals for the future? Do you have any aspirations to further your knowledge of yoga?
A. I am so grateful to be on this path! I want to train myself with teachers that inspire me like Elena Brower, so I would love to travel and train restorative & therapeutic yoga here and there. I will soon do a pre & postnatal training; I’m so excited about that. I want to offer life coaching sessions as well. Helping and inspiring people to connect with themselves & others, to listen to their voice and live the life they really want!
Q6. If you could give one piece of advice to the young aspiring yogi's out there, what would it be?
A. Be present! Stop for a minute and observe what is: the sensations in your body, your breath, your mind. No judgment. Just being aware. Listening. Allow things to be as they are. Be sweet, super sweet with yourself. Open yourself. Life is so magical! Be grateful.
